What Happens Spiritually When You Drink or Use Drugs?
Consuming alcohol and drugs, even a single time, exposes a person to spiritual influence and opens them up to supernatural phenomena; this is why many cases of schizophrenia emerge after substance use.
Why Do Esoteric Schools Forbid Alcohol to Beginners?
Even within esoteric currents, beginners are strictly forbidden from using these substances because they attract all kinds of otherworldly entities. Blavatsky, the founder of Theosophy, states that wine, spiritual liquors, or opium should not be used because they act like evil spirits that latch onto the unaware and devour human intellect. Elsewhere, she emphasizes that drinking wine and spirits is no less destructive to one's inner powers than hashish, opium, and similar drugs.
How Do These Substances Weaken Spiritual Discernment?
This is not Blavatsky’s opinion alone; all esoteric schools historically barred beginners from alcohol and drugs because they knew these substances alter the state of consciousness, weaken a person's discernment, and leave them highly vulnerable to the unseen world—experiences that can utterly destroy a beginner.
Why Are the Same Substances Used in Advanced Rituals?
However, later in advanced esoteric rituals, these specific substances or sacred drinks are utilized within a strictly controlled ritual context, because an advanced practitioner can control the experience, whereas a beginner cannot.
If They Are So Dangerous, Why Are They Sold as Entertainment?
If the very esoteric currents that operate within the spiritual realm warn their followers against alcohol and drugs—knowing they do not merely harm the physical body but expose human beings to highly dangerous experiences and make them vulnerable to otherworldly contact—why do so many people today believe these substances are just a means of entertainment or reality-escape, and why are they legally marketed in so many countries?
